An Italian Close Call

One time I was in Italy with my family for a wedding. It was a happy occasion in one of the most gorgeous settings in the world- the Tuscan countryside. At the wedding I spotted a really cute guy who didn’t take long to start checking me out too. It was on. He approached me at the wedding and we spoke in broken English and Italian, smiled a lot and flirted, which lead to dancing and revelry. He was really sweet, and though there was a definite language barrier, we had nice chemistry. I had done my background research on the sly during the wedding and found out the guy was a close friend of she and her groom, was a GREAT guy and had recently broken up with a girlfriend and single as the day is long. Awesome. Continue reading

BFF is FAB

A new show has hit NBC’s Wednesday night line up by the name of BFF or Best Friends Forever. Before you make any assumptions about the show (what, it’s about BFFs?), let us skip to the lead and tell you it’s awesome. Written by and starring Jessica St. Clair and Lennon Parham, the show follows the best friendship of two awesome chicks when one of their marriages ends in divorce and she’s forced to move in with her best friend and live-in boyfriend.

In addition to following an awesome and relatable story line, the writing and humor incorporated to the script of this show is hysterical. We at several points in the first three episodes (which we watched twice each) found ourselves laughing out loud.

It’s exciting to see Lennon Parham and Luka Jones on a primetime show. We know them from their work at New York’s Upright Citizen Brigade, where at least for us, Lennon is legend.

Sassy pants tween neighbor Queenetta, played by Daija Owens is one of our favorite reappearing cast members. She offers the blunt, sassy girl perspective from a stoop chilling mini diva. She’s hilarious.

All in all, the show is a wonderful addition to some of our other faves on TV. Smartly written and executed, the storyline incorporates real-life character plots (for example, committed female friendship, a co-habitating couple in no rush to get married, and a thirty-something coming to grips with a divorce). How refreshing it is to watch a show where women are of a realistic age and circumstances- their lives are relatable, believable, funny, and relevant.

Tune into BFF on NBC Wednesday nights at 8:30 EST. This wonderful addition to weeknight TV definitely has our SFAR stamp of approval!

Sagging Pants

This has happened to us several times recently. You’re riding on the subway or walking up the stairs in a public setting, turn your head and there’s some guy’s butt in your face. His pants are sagging below his butt and his underwear is hanging out. Here is an example:

Really nice, right? To be honest, the kind of thing we’ve been seeing more recently is more like this:

We’re talking the whole butt.

There has been a lot of debate over the past few years about sagging, and whether guys should even be penalized by the police for wearing their pants like this. We don’t think it needs to get that far, but guys, seriously, PULL UP YOUR PANTS! Ladies don’t want to be hanging out with a guy with his underwear and butt cheeks hanging out.

Wall Street Guy Makes Dating Spreadsheet

Sometimes guys do weird things. And other times they do REALLY weird things, like make a spreadsheet of the girls they are trying to date. Creepy.  Please, examine for yourself:

Color-coded, with details like “from coastal Romania” and “well traveled”, this chart even includes a stoplight system for monitoring the ladies (bold entries, for example, indicate who he must contact ASAP). CREEPY. One of his notes on a young lady reads, “works in my building”. Really? Do you really need to remind yourself that a prospective woman you are interested in works in your building? Oh right, you do, because you are interested in several prospective women and thus need to help yourself keep them straight. Totally sweet, bro.
